module III visits

New ideas for me to grasp  this week were the ideas and concepts of the moving lands and how they were developed here in Alaska.  Through the use of technology we can see other areas of Alaska and how they affect how those people live.  The traditions of past still hold on strong as new technology and new ideas sweep into their lives.

Reading about geologic forces and how they affect your surroundings was of great interest to me. Geologic forces in Cooper Landing are evident all along the area where we live.  Glaciers are present just over the mountains and you can imagine a world years ago where the entire valley of Cooper Landing was a snow and ice covered valley.  the beauty of this area is even more evident as we witness the waters of the Kenai River and feel the coldness of it as the river is filled by a glacial ice dam high up in the mountains.
This site was visited in the first section.

This movie was a great introduction to a lifestyle that consists of living off the land.  Where it was said that
“word for fish is the same for food”  made a lot of sense for a group that relies on the land.  Where I live there has been a resurgence in designating CL as a rural town.   This offers us an opportunity to do more subsistence living through the use of expanded amounts of fish in your possession as well as opportunities to have an exteneded hunting season for moose.[ean08_vid_denaina_m.jpg]

Cooper Landing has rich tradition of Denaina living in this area and there are current studies going on the help the community learn more about the special place we live.
